Ajmal is reading Gandhi autobiography in jail

Mohammad Ajmal Amir, aka, Kasab, is the lone terrorist to be captured alive during the Mumbai terror attack.

For the last one week he is reading Mahatma Gandhi‘s autobiography, “My Experiments with Truth”. This is the Urdu translation of the autobiography.

The book was given by the jail staff. Initially he refused to read the book. However, he has been reading the book for a week now.

The book is available in the jail library in several languages like Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, English, Kannada, and Urdu.

Khandala Hill Station

Khandala is one of the most beautiful hill stations in Maharashtra. It is in the range of Sahyadri hill station. It is blessed with natural beauty and bounty. Mumbai: ‘Commercial Capital of India’

Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra and the ‘Commercial Capital of India’. The city name is derived from Mumba (Hindu goddess Mumba Devi). It has the largest stock exchange of India. The Mumbai city also called the city of Bollywood, attracts thousands of artists and actors from all over the country.

The best time to visit Mumbai is during Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The experience of devotional feelings of the Mumbaikars is at crest. Idols of Ganesh are worshipped for several days and different types of decorations are built for every Ganesha. You must experience the Marathi songs and music i.e., JANJ.

Mumbai has got a lot of places to unwind yourself.. bars, lounges, pubs, discotheques and beaches.

It has great tourist attraction places like Taj Hotel, Elephanta Caves, Film City, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Gateway of India, etc.

Ganapatipule

On the western coast in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, is a small little village, called Ganapatipule. It is known for its serene beach and the 400-year old Swayambhu Ganapati temple. Ganapatipule offers itself as an ancient pilgrim centre bearing a Swayambhoo, a naturally formed idol of Ganapati. The Temple is at the foot of a hill adjacent to a beach. The hill itself is considered sacred and a perennial spring flows from the hill to a pond besides the Temple.

The idol placed in the sanctum sanctorum or the Garbhagriha has been painstakingly preserved. At sunrise and sunset, a shaft of golden light penetrates the Garbhagriha and illuminates the idol.

The hill itself is considered sacred and people perform pradhikshina (a sacred ritual of encircling) of the hill, which is made possible by the rock-encircled path.

Chiplun: “the abode of Lord Parshuram”

Chiplun means “the abode of Lord Parshuram”. Chiplun is the coastal village of Guhaghar in Maharashtra with a picturesque stretch of sand. This place has an array of tourist attractions like Parshuram Temple, Sawatsada Waterfall, Walaavalkar Shivaji Museum, Guhagar Beach, Vashsithi River Jetty and Koyna Dam.

Parshuram Temple is a 700-year old temple, and a must see spot in Chiplun. Sawatsada Waterfall is a monsoon attraction of Chiplun. Then there is the Walavalkar Shivaji Museum, this unique museum depicts the life history of the great Maratha ruler, Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Aurangabad: ‘City of Gates’

Aurangabad, a city named after Aurangzeb, the Mughal Emperor is located in the West Indian State of Maharashtra and is a gateway for visiting the World Heritage Sites of Ajanta and Ellora. The city has many historical monuments of great importance. Many beautiful Mughal monuments can be seen in Aurangabad. The most famous being the ‘Bibi-ka-Maqbara’ resembling the Taj Mahal. This monument is Aurangazeb’s wife’s burial chamber. Behind this monument is a small archaeological museum also of tourist interest.

Akola: ‘Cotton Capital of India’

Akola city is located in north-central Maharashtra state, western India, on the Morna River. An important road and rail junction in the Purna River valley, it is a commercial centre trading chiefly in cotton. Akola is an important educational center with several colleges affiliated with the University of Amravati.

Akola is the cotton capital of India. This comes in useful because the climate is tropical and cotton clothes are popular to combat the heat. Akola is also famous for its pulse, oil and textiles.

CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ – THE LEGEND

Shivaji, founder of the Maratha Empire, was born in 1627. He took the oath to make the land free at the fort Torna at the age of sixteen. This was the start of his lifelong struggle against Mughals and other Muslim powers. By 1680, the year of Shivaji’s death, nearly whole of the Deccan belonged to his kingdom. He had developed an efficient administration and a powerful army.

Birthday of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is celebrated in Maharasthra as Shivaji Jayanti.
